The dramatic cliffs at Holwick Scar in Upper Teesdale. This outcrop of Dolerite, formed by volcanic action, is part of the great Whin Sill which runs across northern England. It can also be seen at Low Force and High Force waterfalls in Teesdale, on the Northumberland coast at Dunstanburgh and offshore where it creates the Farne Islands.
